Commanders for Israel's Security is a group of retired senior Israeli military and intelligence officers. Members include former IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, former Directors of Mossad Zvi Zamir, Shabtai Shavit, Danny Yatom and Meir Dagan, former Head of the Shin Bet Ami Ayalon, former Air Force Commanders Amos Lapidot and Avihu Ben-Nun, and former Police Commissioners Herzl Shafir, Yaakov Turner and Assaf Hefetz.
It was launched in 2014 to urge Israeli action to promote peace in the Middle East. Members call for -
- a freeze in settlement building
- acceptance in principle of the Arab Peace Initiative and a Two State solution
- eventual recognition of East Jerusalem as part of a future Palestinian state.
