Full Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions ("BDS")

A full BDS policy has been advocated on the following grounds -

  • a full boycott will have more effect on Israel than a partial boycott.
  • in practice it is hard for consumers to distinguish between settlement goods and goods produced in Israel proper.
  • Palestinians are constantly urged to renounce armed struggle. A boycott is an effective nonviolent option.
  • a partial boycott can imply, especially to Palestinian activists, a half-hearted opposition to Israeli policies.

A full BDS policy is supported in the UK by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, but has generally been rejected by church groups on the grounds that it is too uncompromisingly anti-Israeli.

Note achievements of the BDS Movement
Some Israelis support BDS; others in the Israeli Peace Movement have reservations.
