The San Remo Conference, 1920

The Israeli Claim

The San Remo Conference was convened after the end of World War I. The principal Allied Powers met to agree the allocation of League of Nations Mandates for lands liberated from the Ottoman Empire.

It was attended by the Prime Ministers of Britain, France, Italy and Japan.

The conference endorsed the intentions of the Balfour Declaration for Palestine, but did not specify which of the Allied Nations was to hold the Mandate for Palestine.

Some Israelis claim that the San Remo Conference intended the whole of Palestine, including the West Bank, to become the Jewish National Home. They argue that this would justify their present-day Occupation of the West Bank.
