Proposed Fatah-Hamas Unity Government

The 2014 Gaza Agreement between Fatah and Hamas authorised the formation of a "technocratic" unity government of national consensus manned by non-party professionals. The formation of this government would be subject to a vote of confidence fron the Palestinian Legislative Council, an elected body with a Hamas majority.

The immediate aims of the unity government would be -

  • to form a government without delay.
  • to reunite Palestinian organisations presently split in the 7-year schism between Fatah and Hamas.
  • to prepare for Palestinian elections within six months.
  • to rebuild Gaza
