The 2014 Gaza Agreement between Fatah and Hamas authorised the formation of a "technocratic" unity government of national consensus manned by non-party professionals. The formation of this government would be subject to a vote of confidence fron the Palestinian Legislative Council, an elected body with a Hamas majority.
The immediate aims of the unity government would be -
- to form a government without delay.
- to reunite Palestinian organisations presently split in the 7-year schism between Fatah and Hamas.
- to prepare for Palestinian elections within six months.
- to rebuild Gaza
