In March 2012 the UN General Assembly granted Palestine "non-member observer state status" with the support of 138 nations. |
Following the breakdown of the Kerry negotiations, the Palestinian Authority (PA) feels it has two alternative strategies --
To dismantle the PA, leaving the Israeli government to accept their responsibility under International Law fo r the needs of all Palestinians in the West Bank. This has some features of a one-state solution but would perpetuate a division of the land which ought to be united.
-
To "internationalise" the conflict, encouraging other nations and agencies, ideally including the UN Security Council, to intervene and end the Occupation. This strategy would be supported within Palestine by a nonviolent popular intifada.
