Timeline

March 2013 President Obama in Jerusalem announced that US Secretary of State John Kerry would launch a fresh peace initiative.
July 2013 Negotiators from Israel and Palestine met in Washington to launch a US-mediated peace process with a 9-month deadline for 'final status negotiations'.
August 2013 Negotiations began in Jerusalem, led by Tzipi Livni for Israel and Saeb Erekat for Palestine.
January 2014 Kerry modified his aim, from a final deal to a 'framework agreement', to meet the same 9-month deadline, but permitting talks to conyinue beyond the deadline.
29 March 2014 Israel failed to release a fourth tranche of Palestinian prisoners, insisting it would do so only if Abbas agreed to extend the talks.
1 April 2014 In retaliation, Abbas signed Palestine up to 15 international treaties, in breach of earlier undertakings.
23 April 2014 Fatah and Hamas concluded the Gaza Agreement.
24 April 2014 Israel suspended negotiations.
