Ending the Gaza Blockade

Jabaliya Refugee Camp, Gaza

The following proposals have been put forward towards ending the blockade of Gaza -

  • Encourage Israel to permit free movement for civilians in and out of Gaza.
  • Encourage Israel to relax restrictions on Palestinian fishing, reverting to the limit of 20 nautical miles agreed in Oslo in 1993.
  • Encourage Israel to allow a seaport and an airport, possibly run by the UN, to be opened in Gaza.
  • Enable a physical link between Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Encourage Egypt to reopen the Rafah Crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
  • Encourage the formation of a Palestinian Unity Government embracing both Fatah and Hamas.
  • Press for an end to rocket and mortar attacks, and hidden tunnelling, from Gaza.
  • Permit Palestinians to develop their off-shore gas fields.
