The Sesame Project

The Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) is a smaller version of the CERN particle accelerator. It is located 30km north of Amman, Jordan. It is due to be completed in 2015, and is jointly funded by Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine and Turkey.
Professor Eliezer Rabinovici, a physicist at the Hebrew University Jerusalem, is a joint vice-president. The SESAME Project will foster collaboration between scientists from different nations, cultures and professional disciplines, despite political differences.
